Goodboy Galaxy started life as an actual Game Boy Advance cartridge, and it plays like one in the best way — an exploration platformer with Metroid and Cave Story in its DNA, all pixel art and tight jumps. You are Maxwell, a dog sent to survey unfamiliar worlds, and the toolkit grows as you go: jumping and shooting to start, then slicing, shrinking, warping and drilling, each one opening up parts of the map you had to walk past earlier. The writing is warmer than the genre usually manages, with a cast of odd aliens who mostly want to talk rather than fight, and the difficulty stays generous while the optional corners stay genuinely tricky.
