Village in the Shade drops you into Kagatsu, a hand-painted mountain village in rural Japan where the days are spent planting crops, decorating a homestead and getting to know the people next door. There are only three rules: don't talk to strangers, don't wander outside the village, and don't go out at night. Nippon Ichi Software builds the whole game around what happens when you break them — the horror here sits in the folklore the villagers half-mention and the things the valley does not explain, rather than in jump scares. Between the harvests there are seasonal festivals, cherry-blossom viewing and a cast worth getting attached to. This Deluxe Edition adds a mini art book and a digital soundtrack.
